Our belief in living simply to live well includes the process of design. We ground our practice in the basics: asking good questions and listening carefully to the answers. This approach helps us turn something potentially overwhelming into something eminently doable and fun.
Depending on the scope/scale of your project, here are some of the possible steps we would take to transform your residential outdoor space*:
initial consultation
A free one-hour visit to hear about your project, walk through the site, discuss your goals, and figure out the best approach for your project.
pre-design
Pre-design is where we gather site information, get a sense of your personal taste and aesthetic preferences, discuss how the landscape should look/feel/function, and begin to build an image library to reference throughout the project.
schematic design
In schematic design, we put pen to paper and begin sketching out a series of conceptual design ideas. We also spend time curating material and planting palettes and meeting with you to determine a preferred design direction.
design development
In the design development phase, we ensure that the design is buildable and works with the space. We fine-tune the layout, dimensions, materials, and plant selections, and research things like material sources, cost ranges, and code requirements.
final design
Once the design is finalized, we draft a set of landscape plans that are biddable by a contractor. These drawings include all of the components needed for landscape installation, including final layout and materials plans, a final planting palette, and a final planting plan. In some case, our documents also contain schematic irrigation and lighting plans. This phase can also include site furnishing design ranging from conceptual ideas to scaled drawings.
construction COORDINATION
Here, we get you in touch with the local landscape contractors that are best suited for your job and act as a liaison during the bidding process. Once construction begins, we are available to answer contractor questions, attend construction meetings, procure plants, source products, approve plant delivery and coordinate plant placement, and perform QAQC and on-site troubleshooting.
